![]() This is a great device, but I didn't like it due to the AMOLED screen (I prefer the long life reflective) and also the 20mm watch strap - I prefer the larger 22mm size on their other watches. ![]() The new Garmin Venu 2 Plus will give you those features as well, in a slightly different format, but it does tie into any smart feature that your phone may have but probably still works best in most cases with an Android versus an iPhone. If you NEED to be able to answer phone calls on your wrist and respond to messages with your voice or use the worlds tiniest on screen keyboard to type messages, then the Galaxy Watch 4 will of course give you those features - as long as you make sure to constantly keep it charged. There are lots of good comments and comparisons in this thread. My Garmin lasts me a week, does a fantastic job tracking my walks, jogs, bike rides, indoor cardio/exercise, sleep times, and gives me a week of battery consistently. But if you put a nice watch face on their and a strap that fits your needs and style, you might find that you love it. Hell yeah.ĭoes the reflective screen look less "cool" than the AMOLED - of course. I can look at my watch like a watch and see the time. I have one of the models (Vivoactive 4) with the reflective screen and honestly, I freaking love it. My Garmin doesn't offer all the features of the GW4 or say even a Fitbit Sense, but I prefer the ability to read my screen at all times whenever *I can also see and without having to turn my wrist in some odd way to invoke the screen turning on. The battery life on that watch is atrocious, and with an insane "slow charging" feature it will take you almost two hours to hit a full charge. Wear OS is inferior to what Samsung had going on with Tizen. It's extremely lightweight.īut the weight thing plays a part into why I ultimately returned the GW4 within my return window. I didn't find the Venu 2 to be "built like a 1980s Casio" - it's build quality is honestly not that much different from the GW4 although sure I will agree that the Venu 2 needs more weight to feel a bit more premium. For the use case the OP described, I would personally recommend a Garmin watch, and that's what is on my wrist right now. I've owned Fitbit, Garmin, and Galaxy watches. ![]() It's not perfect but it sucks the least out of all of them (including Apple Watch - don't get me started).īeauty truly is, as they say, in the eye of the beholder. It's just a theory, but I get very predictable results from it, from sleep patterns to HR monitoring. I think that's why some people have problems with it - they haven't given it enough time to learn. As far as I can tell, it learns about your norms and throws away measurements that are outside of it. The only problem I have with it is it sometimes doesn't catch high heart rate events that are out of the ordinary. It just loses the tracking and when you get home to review it, you've got maybe two data points at best. Unless you carry your phone and use its GPS, you'll get no useful data from it at all. GPS on the Charge 5 is also terrible, full stop. Maybe it's fine if you sleep a straight 6-8 hours (which I don't), but if you sleep in chunks of 3-4 hours at a time, then get up, go back to bed, etc., forget about sleep tracking. The Charge 5 sleep tracking is similarly awful, if you have irregular sleep patterns. The only good thing about it is the battery life, which makes sense because it's mostly just sitting there drooling on itself all day. The GPS tracking (for cycling at least) is also terrible, all over the place. It doesn't accurately record time to sleep/time to wake and also doesn't track, say, afternoon naps at all. Sleep tracking on the Garmin is terrible. The Garmin and Fitbit are sitting in the drawer. I have the GW4, Garmin Venu 2, and a Fitbit Charge 5. No selling/trading posts or links to online listings.
